Your home is a complex system of interacting factors. At About Saving Heat, we take a "wholehome approach" to solving whatever issues may be plaguing your home, taking into consideration factors including air sealing, insulation, appliances, climate, heating and cooling systems, indoor air quality and more. From there, we'll develop a plan to improve your home's performance, boost indoor comfort and reduce your monthly energy bills. We know that multifamily homes are unique; we approach every job with a fresh set of eyes and expectations, all the while honing in on the most important part of the puzzle: enhancing your building's overall efficiency while reducing operating costs.

About Saving Heat started in 1975 and specializes in taking existing homes and making them as efficient or sometimes more efficient than some of today's new homes. Our customer profile is the homeowner who likes their house, their neighborhood and who isn't moving. Unlike builders or sellers, homeowners are willing to make a long-term investment in the comfort and performance of their home. They are motivated to retrofit their homes with energy-conserving improvements such as improved insulation and more thermally responsive windows; AND they don't like to waste money on their monthly bills.

Sunlight (solar energy) turns into heat (heat energy) when it strikes solid objects, i.e., your home! Windows are transparent holes into your home, allowing sunlight in and turning solid objects inside your home into room heaters. Furniture, floors and, yes, your interior window curtains, shades and blinds, are heating up your home! Exterior shading provides an effective interception for solar energy before it enters and heats your home. We have fabric awnings that add a splash of color, and "de-light-full" character to your home.

Your attic is a cantankerous thermal monster which holds hot air in summer and cold air in winter. To keep these opposing thermal monsters from robbing your home of heat in the winter, coolness in the summer and comfort year-round, attics have to be well insulated and properly ventilated. Attic ventilation should efficiently release the summer heat and the winter cold and moisture. It is therefore essential to have good insulation and a tight air seal between the ventilated space (your attic) and the conditioned space (your home), to minimize heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.

We offer weatherization services for homes, multi-family buildings and commercial buildings throughout the region. Weatherizing your home is typically one of the best investments a homeowner or building owner can make for energy savings, energy bill savings, and reducing environmental impact. Believe it or not, the majority of North American homes suffer from inadequate insulation, air leakage throughout the home, leaky duct systems, and other problems that contribute to discomfort in the home and unnecessarily high energy bills.

For many Colorado homeowners, saving money and sticking to a tight budget is more than just a preferred way to live-it's a necessity. People often turn to cutting out the daily latte or cooking instead of dining out, but what about your monthly energy bill? The fact is, many homeowners pay more each month than they should have to for energy. More often than not, this is a result of inadequate air sealing. Are you paying too much on energy each month? About Saving Heat can help, and it all starts with sealing your "building envelope, " or the boundary between your living space and the outdoor air.

Partial or full crawl spaces that aren't properly insulated are often responsible for cold floors and lost heat that should be delivered to rooms in the rest of your house. The two major culprits of this heat loss in your crawl space are cold masonry foundation walls and bare earth floors. Eight-inch thick concrete foundation walls have about the same insulation value as dual pane windows. Imagine the heat loss of wall to wall windows around and under your floors. Since heat flows from hot to cold, the masonry walls, which are exposed to outside temperature and wind, are constantly robbing heat from the warmer floors above and from your heat delivery system.

The system is a solar driven furnace with the capability to harvest the warmth of the sun. Even on a moderately cloudy day, your cold space can be heated. The SunnyTherm system can be designed for sole source heating, off-gird, or as baseload heating to augment your exisiting heat source, thereby reducing your monthly heating costs. This system can be used in a variety of ways. The SunnyTherm system has already been used by homeowners to suppliment their furnace, extend a summer growing season for a greenhouse, warm shop or out building or warm a walk out basement area.

Sound travels a lot like heat through holes, hollow walls and floors. A quiet secret solution is air sealing and dense packing insulation. We suggest trying these options before adding extra layers of sound control materials and lose interior space. Our most popular areas for sound control in single family homes has been the walls around music rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and floors over garages. We have found that in muti-family buildings, partition walls and floors between neighbors are the most popular.

What's new?

Need help! We have this south facing, oddly shaped window in our bedroom. It lets so much heat in, so we currently have a blanket nailed up to keep the light out. I had a blinds company come today and was quoted $1000 for a window covering for just this window! Hell to the no.
