The Countryside Fire Protection District is a stand-alone municipal taxing district, similar to school and library districts, that provides fire protection and emergency medical services to over 24 square miles of Lake County, Illinois. Countryside serves a population of over 35,000 in all or a portion of the villages of Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Indian Creek, and Kildeer as well as unincorporated sections of the county (District Map). The District has been accredited since 1998 by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
A portable fire extinguisher can save lives and property by putting out a small fire or containing it until the fire department arrives; but portable extinguishers have limitations. Because fire grows and spreads so rapidly, the number one priority for residents is to get out safely. REMINDER: Get a new extinguisher when your old one expires, even if it still appears to be in good shape. Countryside Fire Protection has partnered with the Fremont Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in an effort to provide our community an easy way to properly dispose of used or expired fire extinguishers.
Home heating comes from a multitude of sources. Often times residents will supplement their main heating system with alternative heat sources such as fireplaces, wood stoves, and portable fuel or electric heaters. It's important to reach residents in your communities early with alternative heating fire safety information so you can stop the fire before it starts.
