SuStain is a premium semi-transparent penetrating oil based stain developed for use over existing oil or water based finishes. Log home restorationcan be accomplished through a number of different log home products andmaintenance procedures. Most re-applications of stain only require a light rinsing or hand sanding prior to staining. If your logs are weathered and require more attention, you may need to use a stripping agent, a wood brightener/cleaner or blast media. All of these processes can be done by the DIYer but you should proceed with caution as not to create more problems for yourself. Log home caulking can be used on the exterior of your logs or between them as they are being stacked. Log caulking materials are designed to expand and contract as your logs gain and lose moisture. Log home caulking can be applied on the interior, exterior or both sides of your home. Typically, it is applied in widths that range from 1/4'' up to 3/4''. Caulking can be used in place of chinking on those homes where backer rod cannot be installed. These homes usually have shallow log profile or are designed specifically as chinkless style homes.
