We have been handcrafting fine custom furnishings and cabinetry since 1999. Operating out of a renovated, historic property in downtown North Knoxville, we have assembled a group of craftsman who put care into every product they produce, from whole house projects of kitchen cabinets, paneled studies, and trim installation to cutting boards. Together with Aespyre, custom metalworking artisans, Ironwood Studios was created. Our 17,500 square foot warehouse, including a gallery featuring local art works, hosts a variety of events such as fundraisers for the Knoxville Skate Park and Second Harvest food bank, as well as first Friday's downtown art walks and art shows.
Owner John McGilvray started woodworking in 1988 as an apprentice to a master carpenter on Long Island, New York. After five years as a journeyman, McGilvray was placed in a master carpenter position working in all areas of high-end residential building and historic restoration. McGilvray moved to Tennessee in 1995 where he continued to hone his intricate woodworking skills and opened his own custom-cabinetry workshop and trim-carpentry business. Today, McGilvray Woodworks specializes in custom cabinetry, architectural wood products and furnishings, but are proud to say they can do just about anything in wood.
