Paul Downs started making furniture in 1986 in a one-room shop in Philadelphia. We now operate out of 33,000 square feet in Bridgeport, PA, and have 22 employees. Most of our work is done for commercial clients, as we specialize in modern conference tables and office furniture, and we do a few residential jobs every year as well. We are a custom shop: a big room, piles of wood, lots of tools, and skilled craftspeople building whatever you require. This kind of operation has been around since ancient times but has always been a reflection of the current state of manufacturing.
Ryan runs all operations. He oversees every project as it passes out of engineering and through the production process. He is responsible for everything that happens in the shop. Ryan is a master cabinetmaker, and specializes in working with the exotic veneers that we use on our table tops. Carolina is an experienced project manager. Her training in architecture and interior design lets her understand every phase of the projects. She deeply appreciates custom design and high-quality craftsmanship.
Before we started making conference tables, Paul Downs specialized in dining room tables, chairs, and servers. We've always built each of our tables with care and from the finest materials. You'll receive a piece of furniture that's not only beautiful, but durable and functional as well. Our experts can create tables that work equally well in a boardroom or dining room. Tell us what you are looking for and we'll get started on your perfect piece. We have hundreds of custom designs in our archives.
Most of our tables are made out of wood. For an explanation of what types we use and why, please see our FAQ page. This page is an introduction to the wide variety of species that we use and color options for our wood conference room tables. Each species of tree has a characteristic color, texture, and grain pattern. It is possible to modify a wood's color by staining it. The photos below show our most commonly used woods, along with our standard stain variations. There are three groups: woods that can be used for any part of the table, woods that are best suited for the table's top center, and two finishes we use for table bases.
At Paul Downs Cabinetmakers, we've had the privilege of creating custom conference tables and furniture for a variety of distinguished clients. These conference table case studies explain the design and construction processes we use to ensure a successful project. If you are ready to get started, contact us today. A custom table is a thing you use, a place you gather, and a statement of who you are and what you believe. Need an example? When Carson Wentz asked us for help with his AO1 Foundation headquarters, Design Engineer Don Wuest explored those concepts and created a stunning custom table and desk.
If you would like to see fine craftsmanship first-hand, call or contact us to arrange a tour at our custom conference room table company. We are very proud of our shop and our people and love to show them off. The tour generally takes about 45 minutes and covers all phases of the operation: furniture/conference table design, manufacturing, finishing, and shipping. If you haven't been in a modern workshop, you will be amazed at how we combine the latest technology with traditional woodworking skills.
We apologize in advance for the lengthy responses - many of the custom conference table questions involve technical aspects of woodworking and a single sentence answer just won't do. If you would like a further explanation of any of these points, please call us or fill out our contact form. We love to talk about our work, so don't be shy. It depends on the design. Pricing is driven by three factors: Size, complexity, and materials. Large tables and complicated designs take longer to build and cost more than smaller and simpler tables.
Beautiful custom solid cherry dining table and chairs. Still perfect after more than ten years of three hour dinners. Easy people to work with. 100% satisfied. Worth every penny. Did I mention beautiful, classic timeless pieces?! S’cuse the mess. We’re redecorating around the table.
