Ravenstone Tiles is a working tile studio with some framed examples of our tiles on display and lots of glaze samples to look at. Although we are not a gallery or shop, you are welcome to visit our home studio if you are in the area. We are usually working in the studio Monday - Friday but sometimes we are out running errands or picking up materials. We want to make sure we are here when you stop by. If you would like to come in to discuss a project or just see our studio, we'd love to have you visit!

Tile artist Laura Reutter began making tiles in the 1990's. It started out as a hobby while she worked at a museum as an art conservator for a living. The Indianapolis Art Center provided a friendly environment for taking ceramics classes and exploring techniques and styles. Tile-making followed from her interest in sculpting, carving and decorating surfaces. The artistic output of 19th and 20th century arts-and-crafts era potteries was also a big influence on her style and design. After a short period of hobby crafting, while developing appealing designs and glazes, Laura decided to start selling her creations.
Our tiles are handmade from a coarse white stoneware clay which makes them suitable for indoor or outdoor installation. They will withstand heat, freezing temperatures, high humidity and wet weather. Most of our single tiles come with a notch in the back for easy hanging on a nail or hook. Our tiles are approximately 3/8" to 1/2" thick and generally measure about 1/8" - 1/4" smaller than stated size to allow for a grout line. Because of the handmade quality of our tiles, there may be variations in size and color from tile to tile.
