Charles Durfee Cabinetmaker is a small furniture making shop located near the coast of Maine, that designs and builds fine handcrafted furniture for the home and office. Staying close to the traditional roots of American antiques, my style features updated classics. A table, desk, bed, or other piece from my cabinetshop can nicely complement your antiques, or look well in a more contemporary or eclectic setting. I have been working in the same manner for over thirty years: building each piece one at a time, and giving them my fullest attention to achieve exactly what you want.
Born in Hanover, NH, raised in Massachusetts, and for the last 36 years a resident of coastal Maine, my roots and traditions are solidly New England. This heritage is reflected in my designs and workmanship, with a style grounded in traditional New England and Shaker forms. I did primarily boat work, building new and repair, in boatyards and independently. But for the past thirty years I have been crafting furniture and interior cabinets. From my one-man shop, I build high quality, made to order pieces for customers throughout the country.
I build tables of all sorts, for the dining room, breakfast space, kitchen, living room, bedroom, and hallway. They can be used wherever you want a surface to put things. Many successful designs are versatile and have multiple uses. Being a custom furniture maker, I can adapt what you see in this portfolio to suit your needs and wishes. I can use different woods, make a table a different size, or make it expandable. I'm happy to hear your ideas, and a phone call or email is the best way to get started.
