Why is Air Sealing important? The first goal of most home performance projects is to seal or "tighten" a house to control the separation between interior, conditioned space and exterior space. Hot water heating accounts for an average of 38% of the gas usage in California homes giving it the largest share of overall usage which is why we mainly install high efficient heat pump water heaters. We specialize in Rheem / Ruud and Sanden heat pump water heaters. Looking for a career at a cutting edge company that leads the nation in home performance retrofits?

Duct systems in California leak an average of 30%. That is 30% air going in and out of your ducts which can bring in contaminants from the attic and crawlspace into your home plus all of the obvious energy loss. If duct leakage occurs on the return side of the system it can draw in contaminated attic or crawlspace air and send it directly into the living space. Leakage in ducts can be a main factor in comfort and moisture issues, performance problems, high energy bills and poor air quality. Another thing that hurts your systems performance is duct insulation.
Attic insulation is one of our specialties as a home performance and insulation contractor. We prefer to install stabilized cellulose insulation in attics. When blowing the insulation in it goes through a wetting system which moistens the insulation. The main reasons for installing insulation like this is to minimize dust (both for the installer and the homeowner), it gets into all of the voids better and there is minimal settling of the material. Without installing insulation like this, you cannot see very well and your installation quality will suffer.
We mainly use ducted heat pump equipment because of the measured performance results we get from them. Even though we get great performance out of ducted systems, we still prefer ductless systems for many of our bay area homes. They offer great versatility when architectural and structural elements don't allow for high performance ducted systems. The main systems in the bay area are forced air ducted and a few radiant systems. The main issues, and their solutions, that we find in these existing systems are explained below.
The air quality in most houses is poor and sometimes dangerous. There are ways to check for carbon monoxide leakage, moist air and infiltration from bad air areas and we know them. They are your combustion appliances, your attic, crawl space, windows, walls and other areas in and around your home. Combustion byproducts, such as carbon monoxide, from furnaces, water heaters, gas ranges and other major gas appliances can be extremely dangerous. We test combustion appliances to ensure they are operating correctly and not creating a dangerous indoor air quality situation.

Currently, the heating and ventilation portion of projects are what we're focusing on and postponing any non-essential insulation services until our bay area governments lift the ban. Because our HVAC and plumbing services are considered essential and the need for clean air in homes, a comfortable...
