Completed in 2017, this Passive House commercial retrofit project was the first of its kind in Newton, MA. Auburndale Builders took a dilapidated three car cement block garage and transformed it into their offices. It's certified by PHIUS as a Source Zero building (it produces as much energy as it consumes) thanks to a photovoltaic array that doubles as an overhang to shade the mid-summer sun. Efficient mechanical ventilation provides continuous fresh air to the offices and classroom space. The Studio for High-Performance Design and Construction (StudioHPDC) occupies one end of the newly renovated Auburndale Builders office.
