In the summer of 1957 our founder, Charles M. Knox, saw an opportunity to earn extra money and start his own business. At the time he was installing aluminum awnings for a company in Pittsburgh and saw many jobs that needed railing. With the Hampton Concrete Delivery Service truck, he started selling and manufacturing ornamental iron railing in the basement of his still unfinished new house he was building. Finding this railing business was not sufficient to keep his family, he bought a small concrete patio stone business, Hampton Concrete Products, in 1960.
