The Brick Industry Association (BIA) is the national trade association representing distributors and manufacturers of clay brick and suppliers of related products and services. Since its founding in 1934, the association has been the nationally recognized authority on clay brick construction. BIA provides a broad range of programs and services that fulfill its mission of promoting and safeguarding the clay brick industry. BIA promotes the industry through education programs like online training classes; market research including production, shipment and other data; publications such as Technical Notes on Brick Construction, Brick in Architecture and Builder Notes; and promotional programs such as public relations, advertising and a national architectural awards competition.
Starting with our Brick and Tile publication that focused on Camp Lejeune in the early 1940s, the Brick in Architecture insert has been published regularly for over 70 years and is now inserted in the official publication of AIA Architect magazine. You can download some of our most recent issues by going here.
Did you know that brick only makes up 80% of a brick wall? The other 20% is comprised of mortar made from a BIA member supplier/contributing associate. Companies who help further the brick industry who do not make or sell brick are contributing associates. They play a critical role in our industry, and they make mortar, masonry supplies, plant equipment and more.
Brick doesn't rot, dent or need to be painted, and it will never tear or be eaten by termites. Besides its enviable durability and strength, brick's modular units and variety of shapes have resulted in beautiful structures in just about every architectural style. The brick industry recognizes that the stewardship of our planet lies in the hands of our generation. Our goal is to continually seek out innovative, environmentally friendly opportunities in the manufacturing process and for the end use of clay brick products.
The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) is the national trade association representing mason contractors. The MCAA is committed to preserving and promoting the masonry industry by providing continuing education, advocating fair codes and standards, fostering a safe work environment, recruiting future manpower, and marketing the benefits of masonry materials. The organization has been in existence since 1950. The International Masonry Institute (IMI) is a strategic alliance between the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers and the contractors who employ those members.
