The Battaglini family began our careers in asphalt paving when our father Bob Battaglini Sr bought a roller and a dump truck in Endicott, New York in 1954 after he completed his military service. At its height his business R D Battaglini Corp. had over 70 employees and paved large sections of route 17 and 81 as well as hundreds of driveways and parking lots. Bob Jr. and I were trained by our father working through the Binghamton, Endicott, Vestal, and Johnson City area. We took that experience a step further by attending numerous seminars on paving, asphalt maintenance and concrete installation over the past three decades.

Asphaltic Concrete (AKA Blacktop) is a mixture of sand and stone (aggregate) and heated liquid Asphalt Cement (AC). Asphalt Cement is a by-product of refining oil. As the price of oil has risen so has the price of Asphalt. However, it is still the most economical option for paving in the Binghamton area. With all of the ground movement we endure from the freeze and thaw cycles of our soil, the flexibility that asphalt offers makes it the obvious choice for driveways and parking lots in upstate New York areas like Binghamton, Endicott, Vestal, and Johnson City.

EDGING - First the driveway is edged using a power edger. This will provide a clean appearance and will expose hidden cracks which can be cracksealed. CLEANING - The driveway will be thoroughly cleaned using a 200 mph blower and scrubbed with a steel bristle broom. When necessary we use high power pressure washers. HEAT LANCING - This machine cleans, dries, and melts the brittle sidewalls of the cracks using 1800° of high pressure air. Battaglini Sealcoating is the only sealcoating company in the triple cities to go to this extent to do a proper job of cracksealing.

Asphalt is a petroleum derivative, soluable to distillates such as gasoline and motor oil. Sealing your pavement prevents damage from distillates and chemicals. The intrusion of moisture into asphalt pavement accelerates deterioration. Sealing asphalt prevents the seepage of moisture from snow and rain, thus preventing damage from freeze-thaw cycles. Solar rays oxidize the oils in pavement, causing brittleness and the loss of aggregates, destroying up to 50% of the original thickness within just five years.
