Since 1927, the Truckee Donner Public Utility District (Truckee Donner PUD) has been providing the greater Truckee area with reliable and high quality water and electric services while guiding the community to conserve resources. Truckee Donner PUD is a not-for-profit, community owned utility governed by locally elected Board of Directors. Truckee Donner PUD's electric utility strives to provide low-cost, reliable, and sustainable electricity services to our customers. Integral to this success is to make investments that balance rates, renewables, and reliability.
If you are a new or returning customer and would like to start water and/or electric service, please download one of our application for service forms here. Protection of customer personal information and credit is very important to us. A utility credit application helps us determine whether a deposit is needed. This is a soft credit check and will not impact your credit score. Existing customers will have their payment history and activity used to determine whether a deposit will be applied. There is a $60 setup fee to open a residential account.
Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) acquires its water from aquifers hundreds of feet deep all within the Truckee groundwater basin area. The water is transported to Truckee's higher elevations through a series of pump stations and is stored in water tanks strategically placed throughout the community. There are approximately 11,500 water customers served by the District. Truckee water is pure and of a higher quality than most bottled drinking water. The TDPUD's water system has been elaborately designed with pump stations and storage reservoirs at different elevations to maintain high pressure for fighting urban fires and for all domestic water uses.
The Truckee Donner PUD was formed and operates under the State of California Public Utility District Act. This district is governed by a board of directors which consists of five elected members. Truckee Donner PUD provides electric and water service to portions of Nevada and Placer Counties described as Truckee. The electric and water service operations are separately maintained and operated. These financial statements reflect the combined electric and water operations. All significant transactions between electric and water operations have been eliminated.
Interested in bidding on construction, service or maintenance projects? Please contact the Contract Administrator to be added to a bidders list for the services you provide. If you download bid documents for a construction project from this website or a plan room, you must notify the District that you plan to respond in order to receive any addenda or changes to the bid documents. Failure to acknowledge addendums may subsequently disqualify you from the bid process. All workers employed on a public works project must be paid the prevailing wage determined by the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations, according to the type of work and location of the project.
Truckee Donner PUD has been serving Truckee for over 80 years. In 1927, after a five year drought, the Truckee River wasn't able to turn the water wheel for Truckee Electric Company's private generator. Registered voters of the area drew up a petition calling for the formation of a special district to buy electricity from the downstream generators of Sierra Pacific Power Company and sell it to local residents. For the first 20 years the Truckee Public Utility District's four or five part time employees served only a few dozen houses and shops in the downtown area.

The Truckee Donner Public Utility District (TDPUD) is continually seeking vendors, suppliers, and contractors who can provide quality products and services at competitive prices. Potential vendors should keep in mind that TDPUD's purchasing policy requires that procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, vehicles, services and construction services be done in a manner to encourage open competition through competive bidding or competitive sealed proposals.
