We work with a lot of homeowners who are general contracting or project managing their own remodel. In many cases, I think that's great. I wouldn't recommend it for all projects (or homeowners) but I think it works in many cases. Right owners, right project, right house. I also think it's great because it gives. Like the Stones, they want it painted black. All new stair remodel with red oak treads and an all black balustrade. I always caution against a painted handrail because I don't think it ages well, especially in white.
