Master Builders' Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. is a trade association whose membership includes more than 240 of the top general contractors, construction managers, specialty contractors, and service and supplier companies supporting our region's commercial construction industry. Collectively, the membership accounts for more than eighty (80) percent of the commercial construction in our area. The MBA brings a strong, influential, and single voice to the industry, which is our greatest source of pride and legacy since 1886.
Chartered in 1965, the AIA-MBA Joint Committee provides a unique forum for Architects, General Contractors, and Owners to meet and discuss existing conditions of the construction industry. As a result of this forum, a set of guidelines was created to reflect the best practices for procedures involving drawings and specifications, bidding, contract documents and administrative procedures during construction. The committee's mission is "to improve our region's construction community by uniting, promoting, and creating a pool of professions that facility healthy, sustainable living, while building our region."
CAP, the Construction Advancement Program of Western Pennsylvania, is a service organization established in 1961 via the collective bargaining agreements between the Master Builders' Association and various building trades unions. The primary CAP function is to provide services which benefit all persons, management and labor alike, who earn their living in union construction working for any of the contributing firms. These services include activities in the fields of Accident Prevention, Education, Apprenticeship, Industry Relations, Legislation, Human Relations and Public Relations.
MBA members automatically become members of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the nation's largest and most influential contractor's trade association, representing over 26,000 member firms nationwide. This affiliation affords the MBA membership with an even stronger industry voice and broader access to services, resources, and activities available on a national level. For more information, please visit AGC's website. AGC's new member onboarding video walks members through the AGC website, shows you how to set up your AGC member profile and highlights AGC's member benefits, including AGC's discount programs, educational opportunities, and engagement opportunities.
MBA proudly supports many local organizations like Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, ACE Mentor Program, and Mario Lemieux Foundation, to name a few. The aforementioned organizations work on improving various aspects of the community, as well as the lives of children in need. Many of our members are active participants, serving on Boards and donating their time and resources to these great causes. MBA events held throughout the year serve as fundraisers for these organizations. Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh was launched by the MBA and the Carpenters Union in 1993 as an organization that repairs and renovates the homes of seniors, veterans, and persons with physical disabilities.
