With roots dating to 1964, OZ is named for two founders Tom Obermeier and Alan Zeigel, who believed that collaboration sparks creativity. Today, we are comprised of 170 architects, interior designers, brand strategists, and support staff. The firm works in multiple practice areas that include cultural projects, such as libraries and museums, municipal and education facilities, urban living, workplace and hospitality projects. We have a large interior design group that works across practice areas and has extensive experience as well.
Listening, understanding, and responding to each client's vision begins our design process, no matter what service we're providing. Drawing from a wide portfolio of experience, our teams are skilled at integrating several services or can focus on just one, depending on our client's needs. We also know the best solutions come from a fullpartnership with our team: client, stakeholders, consultants and contractor, from the first meeting to the final sign-off. Our architectural design responds uniquely to the complexities of individual client cultures, goals and uses.
We design cities, towns, neighborhoods and the individual buildings that contribute to them. Our goal is to create beautiful places with lasting value for the communities they serve. Design is the creative focus of our process - a collaboration that brings together citizens, economists, engineers, architects, developers, policy makers, government officials and builders to construct their collective visions for the future. Our designs build on the unique character and positive qualities of each place.
Our story has been unfolding for fifty years. The OZ name is taken from the initials of two of our founding Principals, Tom Obermeier and Alan Zeigel. Both received their architectural degrees from CU in Boulder and worked together in the same office as architects early in their careers. They went on to found separate firms, but they remained friends. The late 80s were difficult times in Denver, and architectural firms were struggling. Tom and Alan thought that combining the talents and resources of their firms made sense, both for their staff and their clients.
