Sawyer Construction is a residential construction company based in Sebastopol, California. We build custom homes in Sonoma, Marin and Napa Counties. We specialize in a variety of styles including Victorian remodel, Japanese, and California contemporary. Our homes have been featured in This Old House, Inspired House and other architectural magazines. Sawyer Construction was founded by Ken Sawyer in 1990. Ken's experience began with his father, a contractor in central British Columbia, and continued in homebuilding in Vancouver.
Joinery Structures designed and produced all of the wood joinery for this Napa house. We did the concrete, framing, siding, roofing, plastering and built some of the doors and windows. The wood joinery, mostly of Port Orford cedar, is of an exceptional level of craftsmanship-the result of Paul Discoe's years of studying joinery in Japan. The roof is corrugated metal, painted with asphalt emulsion. We framed a 2x4 roof on top of the exposed ceilings, insulated with rigid insulation, and wrapped with sheet metal flashings that returned to the soffits.
