Owner Terry Smith was 10 years old the first time he helped his dad on his plumbing service repair truck. After securing all of the training needed to become a Licensed Master Plumber, he opened American Plumbing in 1989 to serve the East Baton Rouge and Ascension areas. Our technicians take pride in their work and have respect for every property they enter. If they do make a mess, they clean it up! In addition to their state plumbing license, all technicians attend mandatory training classes throughout the year and keep all of their necessary certificates current.
Our owner and operator, Terry Smith, has had an interest in plumbing since he was a young boy. Following in his father's footsteps, Terry stayed in the plumbing industry and eventually established his company, American Plumbing, in 1989. Since then, we have expanded to two locations, Baton Rouge and Gonzales, to provide our same excellent service to a broader area. Now, Terry is chairman of the State of Louisiana Plumbing board to ensure all plumbers meet the requirements of great service. Terry and his crew dedicate themselves to making sure all leaks get fixed, drains are snaked, and toilets are silenced.
Backflow is when your plumbing system reverses the direction of water within your plumbing, leaving it vulnerable to waste, chemicals, dirt, and other sediments getting into your plumbing system. It could result in the contamination of your water and severe damage to your plumbing. If you do have backflow, there is a high potential that all of your plumbing will need to be decontaminated. You will also most likely need to install a backflow prevention system into your home's plumbing to prevent the possibility of backflow once again.

No longer do plumbers have to search for leaks with stethoscopes! American Plumbing provides electronic leak detection services for plumbing that is more difficult to inspect. This non-invasive process allows for little to no damage during the detection phase. Utilizing this technology, we are also able to detect leaks in slabs. In addition to water pipes, this kind of leak detection can be utilized on natural gas lines, air conditioners, and other pressurized systems. If you have abnormally high water bills, this may also indicate that there is water leaking undetected somewhere.
I would recommend American Plumbing to anyone looking for professional, informed, and friendly plumbers! They were on time, professionally dressed, and took the time of thoroughly explaining my options for repair and/or replacement of my water heater.
My sincere THANKS to American Plumbing who replaced our failing water heater and in the interim of replacing gave me the advice I needed to avert severe water damage to my house ceiling and interior. The consultation, professional service, and installation was outstanding. It's great to know there is still a company out there that truly cares for the customer and their needs on all levels.
Cannot say enough good things about American Plumbing. Mr. Terry Smith is extremely knowledgeable and determined my issue right away. His crew, Seth and Mike were amazing. They worked quickly, accurately and made sure everything was good before leaving. They were very friendly and made me feel better about a bad situation!! Recommend Terry, Seth and Mike from AP highly!
They were on time and did really good quality work. The work was done fast and it had started raining during the time they were working, but it didn't stop or slow them down. I couldn't have ask for a better company to do my work. It's such a joy to find a company that you can trust to do a great job at a very fair price. They will be the first company I call if I need anymore plumbing done in the future. This was the second time that I have had them do work for us and I couldn't be more pleased. If you're looking for a company that you can trust to do top quality work for a really good price. Look no further.
American Plumbing fixed the problem of a leak in my slab. First they ran a camera to find where the damage was, and it showed some pretty bad damage in the pipes which as my home is over 50 years old, was not unusual. They quickly jack-hammered the slab, removed the rotten iron pipe which I could see was ate up, replaced it with pvc and tested it until it was perfect. Then they neatly replaced the concrete and I was in business. Everything went smoothly and Terry and Mike were on time and very courteous, answering all my questions in a way I could easily understand. I now consider them my Family Plumbers and it is a relief to know I can rely on them if I need them again.
The work that the plumbers did was high quality and efficient. The reason I gave such low marks was their communication with me and price. I set up an appointment for a Friday. They didn't give me a time but said we were "third on the list" so to expect the afternoon. At 2 pm, I hadn't heard from them so called. They told me they were planning to call but hadn't gotten to it yet. They told me they had 5 jobs that day. I had taken time off of work and they clearly could have known that morning that they would not make it to my job. They then could not come until the following Tuesday afternoon and completed the work on Wednesday afternoon. The total time was about 5-6 hours - $1375 seems high for that amount of time. Also, they had to open part of my wall but now I have to get the wall part fixed. Now- their plumbers were very personable and did quality work.
The faucet was leaking very badly. He spent time trying to fix it, had to get some parts but that did not work. At that point he recommended that it would cost less for me to pick out a new faucet and he would install it. He went on to another small job and I went to Lowes and got the faucet I wanted. He was back shortly and finished the job.
This customer bought 2 tankless water heaters to replace his 2 tank water heaters. He knowingly hired an unlicensed plumber wannabe to install the units. After setting the units in place, the plumber wannabe realized he did not know how to correctly install the units and walked away. Not to.

People are wondering about all of the failed plumbing in Texas due to the freeze. So much of it could have been avoided if the homes would have had pex tubing water systems instead of CPVC water systems. CPVC shatters when it freezes while Pex tubing expands and contracts. Call American Plumbing.
