Thompson Engineering was formed in 1953 to provide quality assurance for construction projects related to industrial, infrastructure, and community development. As a drilling, materials testing, and construction inspection and chemistry laboratory firm, we supported the engineering and construction industry. Our early years were building blocks that allowed us to get our feet wet-literally -performing services along the Gulf Coast's rivers, bayous, and streams. Today, Thompson Engineering is known for leadership on projects defining skylines, coastlines, and transportation lines.
Geotechnical engineering is the foundation of our business, dating back to our roots as a soils testing laboratory founded in 1953. Today, we provide a full complement of geotechnical engineering, drilling, and laboratory testing capabilities including studies, investigations, drilling, and modeling with significant capability in design. Our engineers and geologists specialize in heavy foundations in weak soils, over-water work, infrastructure, and coastal environments. We have extensive experience in testing, evaluating, and designing heavy-duty asphalt and rigid pavements for airfields, federal highways, and industrial clients.
Many rules and regulations aim to protect our environment - water, air, and land - and the health of the general public. The economic impact to your facility and your customers' satisfaction depends on an understanding of where these rules come from and how to interpret them. No doubt, this effort is complicated when your infrastructure is past its prime. Or it can be overwhelming when you are constructing a new facility. Our job is to find the most responsive and cost-effective environmental engineering solutions to help you adhere to these guidelines so that your operations continue without disruption.
Architecture is more than the rendering that illustrates the aesthetic features of your project. It is a much bigger concept linking buildings and environment to improve not just your project, but the life around it. We believe that good architecture solves a client's problem, and that great architecture enhances the entire community. With that in mind, we help our clients achieve goals through a comprehensive and collaborative design process. Through our affiliated company Watermark Design Group, we offer architecture services that see projects from concept to completion.
A new build, facility expansion, disaster-related repairs, and inspections of aging infrastructure are just some of the reasons you could be in need of a structural engineer. Thompson Engineering's experience includes numerous successes in each of these categories for clients in the industrial, transportation, and commercial markets. Looking to expand your facility? Our Front End Engineering Design (FEED) offers up-front engineering to determine or manage project budgets and costs so that you can make decisions about your ability and plans to expand.
State Departments of Transportation and city and county governments work hard to keep up with the demands of bringing new transportation projects to life and maintaining the safety of current infrastructure. There's always more to do than people to do it. Thompson Engineering's construction engineering and inspection (CEI) team fills the gaps so your projects proceed smoothly. Our team is experienced. From professional engineers and former contractors to certified professionals in erosion sediment control, we have the talent you need to keep your project (and travelers) moving.
Landscape architecture is the integration of the built and natural world. When done right, landscape architecture benefits both people and the environment. Have you ever visited a shopping center with wide, shaded sidewalks and convenient parking? Have you avoided an area because the lighting is poor at night or because rainwater floods the parking lot during a storm? Professional landscape architecture creates experiences between people and outdoor spaces that feel safe and enjoyable. For cities, developers, and business owners, creating pleasant outdoor spaces is critical.
If you've ever been part of a construction project that left you with little time for the other things on your to-do list, chances are your project was NOT built with an integrated delivery method. Tackling your project with an integrated approach brings together engineers, architects, and contractors early on in the process so that design and constructability issues are addressed from the start. When you're embarking on a large project, you want a design consultant on your side to make sure the job is completed as planned.
Interior design solutions bring new life to a dated structure or set the tone for a new build. Through our affiliation with Watermark Design Group, we provide interior design services for clients in the commercial and industrial markets. Our projects include restaurants, school classrooms, office buildings, and more. You can bet we have an impressive collection of flooring, fabric, and furnishing samples. But interior design solutions do more than visually please the eye. Coding requirements and accessibility issues can also be addressed.
Infrastructure upgrades and maintenance costs are major challenges for all levels of government, business, and industry. Partnering with a civil engineering firm that can find cost-effective, long-term solutions to help you improve efficiencies and find ways to maximize cost/benefit ratios is key to your success. Thompson Engineering's civil engineering experience is diverse. In our 65+ years, we have partnered with a variety of clients with very different planning, design, and budgetary requirements.
We use a phrase to help explain our engineering expertise: "Profound from the ground down." It captures the geotechnical roots of our business, as well as what we've learned as we've grown during the past 66+ years. From civil, structural, geotechnical, and environmental engineering to marine and coastal applications, our multi-disciplined firm provides a solid foundation for your next project. Today's regulatory environment means careful attention to environmental requirements is a must. Our environmental team performs a wide range of services and has the experience to keep your project moving smoothly.
The transition of a project from design to construction is a critical time. Your team is making hundreds of decisions, and the consequences of even the smallest decisions can be huge. Before you bring in the bulldozer, bring in our construction surveying team to establish the project controls that will create the right ripple effect for your project. Thompson Engineering's construction surveying team is experienced in all types of construction-buildings, large industrial facilities, roads, bridges, and more.
