Air Sealing - Did you know the average home built before 2014 leaks over 70% of its air EVERY HOUR? By properly air sealing and insulating, you make your home much more comfortable, energy-efficient, and save money, too! Air sealing will eliminate a large amount of air that escapes from your home in places you can't see. By air-sealing and insulating first, before you invest in other improvements, you will make your home more comfortable and reduce your utility bills for years to come. Believe it or not, sealing ductwork was not in the building code until 2012. Most homes ductwork leaks about 38% of the air in the ducts inside walls, floors, attics and crawlspaces so it never reaches the intended room. This makes rooms hotter or colder than one another, makes the furnace, air-conditioner work harder to get the home to the desired temperature, puts more wear and tear on your equipment and creates more dust in your home. For over 10 years Home Performance Services has been sealing ductwork the old fashioned way.by hand, with tape or mastics.

Because insulation is often treated as a "commodity" in the building process, attic insulation may be installed poorly, to low standards, may be contaminated by rodents and insects or may have its performance lowered by having a lot of debris or roofing material thrown into the attic. To air-seal the attic the right way, all the attic air penetrations must be located to be properly sealed. Finding them can be a challenge when buried by old insulation and roofing debris.
