It all began in 1901 (in what is now our Minneapolis, MN location) when August Cornelius, our founder, started producing greenhouse and field vegetables. The original glass greenhouse covered 4,000 square feet, supporting tomato production. As the facilities expanded, the vegetable assortment also expanded to include cucumbers, lettuce, watercress, radishes, and tomatoes. The fresh produce was marketed locally. The entire family worked in the business. When a recent immigrant, J. Emil Wagner, joined the company, he developed a love for both the business and for August's daughter, Johanna.

Wagners grows for your order so you get the highest quality plants in the varieties and quantities that you need. We offer plants in 4 convenient sizes: a 36 landscaper trays, 80mm Growcoons and 6″ round pots. 36 landscaper trays are great for bedding plants and borders, and the plant size is comparable to jumbo packs. The biodegradable mesh 80mm Growcoons can be planted directly into the ground, and the plant size is comparable to a 4 pot.

Wagner Greenhouses produces young plants for growers nationwide. We are known for our quality and service and our products are available through the broker system. We invite you to ask your favorite broker and/or salesperson about ordering our young plants. Many factors come together to make our young plants from Wagners so special. Our northern climate and state of the art structures help us maintain the perfect environment for our wholesale rooted plugs. Our experienced growing staff works hard to build well-toned plugs with strong root systems and controlled top grown with minimal use of chemical plant growth regulators.

Wagner's operates two greenhouse production ranges. The original site in Minneapolis includes 4.5 acres of production space. Our second site, about 30 miles northeast in Hugo, includes an additional 3.5 acres for plugs and finished plants. Our careful production techniques begin with the moment that seeds and cuttings enter our facility. Every seed lot undergoes germination testing in our greenhouses. Every package of seed or bag of cuttings is tracked back to the parent lot and tracked to each tray in which it is sowed or stuck into.
