Prior to removing your old flooring and/or installing your new, you should mop or vacuum the existing surfaces to remove any loose dirt and minimize airborne dust created during the removal process. It is also a good idea to sweep or vacuum the subfloor once the old flooring has been removed. Be sure to arrange for the disposal of the old flooring if you are taking care of the removal. Power, ventilation and climate control are very important to a successful installation. Be sure to notify your sales associate if your job site lacks any of these so that proper arrangements can be made.

Subfloor preparation is the most important step in accomplishing a proper installation. The subfloor must be structurally sound, rigid, smooth, flat and free of curing compounds and oily or waxy films. Appropriate moisture content of the floor must be determined and maintained. Some subfloors require the installation of a cement backer board or similar material. Periodically, you may discover concealed damaged once your old floor covering has been removed. It is at this time that a qualified installer will be able to determine any repairs necessary to bring the floor into compliance with manufacturer specifications and allow it to properly accept the new flooring.
