The #1 concern we hear is regarding dust. Since Natural Accent Hardwood Floors prides itself on the best customer service in the industry, we have invested in one of the best hardwood flooring dust containment units on the market. We had Jim add hardwood floors to our entire 2nd level and we were very pleased with the results. We have had other contractors put in wood floors for us before but Jim is clearly the best.
When I set about founding Natural Accent Hardwood Floors I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create a unique company that built its reputation around customer service that catered to our customers' needs. I wanted to personalize our services and provide the opportunity for you, my customer, to feel that you are in control of the process while we use our skills and expertise to realize your vision. Because that's how every project starts, a vision of your home with beautiful hardwood floors.
These products are often the most confusing aspect to homeowners when making hardwood flooring decisions. This is a shame since stains, sealers and finishes play such a vital role in the outcome. Without knowing what to look for, a homeowner might not realize they've bought an inferior product until it's too late. Top-of-the-line products are not sold at do-it-yourself hardware stores. The stains, sealers and finishers you see on the shelves at big box stores don't compare to the level of products that are available to professionals.
Hardwood floors are one of the easiest floors to maintain and, if proper care is taken, will last for generations. In fact, many of the hardwood floors we refinish are up to 100 years old. Few things in a home can hold their look, and just as important, keep their value. Preventing the floor from accumulating large amounts of dirt and grit will greatly increase the longevity of your floor. Avoid vacuums with beater bars as they can scratch the floor. This is a quick and efficient way to keep your floor from accumulating dust and small debris.
Staining is an optional step and is only used when you want to change the color of the wood in contrast to its "natural color." If desired, it's the first step in the finishing process. Any mistakes made in the sanding process are magnified by staining the floor. It takes great skill and experience to apply an even, blemish-free stain coat. Water-based: Water-based stains dry quickly and have a low odor. However, achieving desirable results with water-based stains can be tricky and, therefore, are only used in unique circumstances.
We've been fine-tuning our process for years. And even though every hardwood floor is unique, we find that adhering to this process is a proven method to protect your floor. Make sure all furniture is off the floor and the floor is relatively clean, removing as many wall decorations as possible, as well as flipping up the drapes and curtain. Next, we remove the covers from any baseboard heaters and any doors that may prohibit sanding. We'll also cover any electronics with plastic. Even though our dustless sandingremoves 98% of airborne dust; we always take the extra precaution.
The first, and most important, step to our dust free sanding is capturing the fine dust before it becomes airborne. We achieve this by attaching all our sanders to top-of-the-line dust containment units. For example, our big drum sander runs off of Oneida's Vortex Gorilla Vac, and we also retro-fitted our drum sander with their Vortex Cyclone kit for maximum efficiency. Check out a short video of us sanding red oak. It's a bit loud, so you may want to turn down the volume. Any dust that our dust containment systems don't pick up is too heavy to be airborne.
