Totta Hardwoods is a family owned hardwood flooring specialist company serving the Kansas City area. The company was started in 2009 by Mike Totta, then two years later joined by his brother, Ben. Mike manages the day to day operations of the business, and Ben oversees all of our field work. What began as a way to support their families, quickly turned into a passion for woodworking and craftsmanship. Now Totta Hardwoods has become known for their uncommon attention to the details of their craft and a respect for their client's home.

Many hardwood flooring companies skip from low to high grit sand paper. Sanding a floor in this manner will leave an uneven finish and early finish wear in high traffic areas. We do not skip any steps in our hardwood floor refinishing process. We increase the grit gradually so you get a flat surface with as much durability as possible. We also use top of the line equipment including planetary sanders to ensure our floors are as flat as possible. Before the final sanding step on your hardwood floors, we trowel-fill the entire floor with wood filler.

This happens because more moisture is absorbed by the unfinished underside of the boards causing the bottom of each board to expand more than the top. The result is a wavy appearance and each course of wood is raised at the seams. In most cases the wood is not ruined. The wood is ruined if the boards cup so badly they begin to actually lift off the floor pulling the fasteners up like the floor pictured above. The only solution here is to tear-out and replace the wood. There are many companies that offer dehumidifier services that can dry out your floors very quickly.

It is pretty standard for homes to have carpet installed on the stairs and over time, the carpet begins to look worn and matted down. Hardwood stairs & railings are a much more durable option. Totta Hardwood Flooring can remodel your staircase to match any design from traditional to modern. We also have the ability to install radius staircases and railings. We remove the existing stair cover (if any) as well as the existing treads and risers. We do this because your new hardwood staircase must be leveled, and there just isn't a good way to do that without getting down to the actual stair stringers.

We offer hardwood floor deep cleaning that is done with a scrubbing machine and a wood specific cleaning solution. We will get your floor looking as clean and fresh as it can be. The deep cleaning process is both affordable and quick. This hardwood floor deep cleaning process is used in multiple industries from restaurants and commercial property to residential homes as well.

If your hardwood flooring has been damaged due to water or if you have experienced a deep scratch or gouge, Totta Hardwood Flooring can restore your floors. In many cases, we can provide fixes for minor scratches without the need to completely refinish the entire hardwood floor. Solutions often include board replacements for both onsite finished boards and prefinished boards. Regardless of the effort placed in maintaining your hardwood flooring, there is always a chance for hardwood floors to develop small splits or cracks in the surface of the wood.
